Our Grantmaking

GRANTMAKING OVERVIEW

Stone Foundation believes in providing flexible, patient, and trust-based philanthropic support.

Our grantmaking is primarily focused on supporting work that serves the people of Monmouth County, New Jersey and Wabanakiq in Maine.

We consider both general operating and project-specific grants, including both annual and multi-year commitments.

Stone Foundation’s grantmaking incorporates two approaches:

  1. An open application process that welcomes proposals from 501c3 nonprofit organizations, and community groups with a 501c3 fiscal sponsor.

  2. Foundation-initiated investments that convene, build networks, amplify impact, and innovate solutions with and among community changemakers, connectors, and influencers.

For the Wabanakiq Grant Program, the Foundation accepts applications on a rolling basis.  For the New Jersey Grant Program, the Foundation reviews grant applications twice annually, in May and November.   Applications submitted by the spring deadline (March 15th) will be reviewed in May, and those submitted by the fall deadline (October 1st) will be reviewed in November.

We do not fund direct political lobbying, electioneering, or religious activities or institutions except in their capacity as fiscal sponsors.

Unrestricted general operating grants range in size from $5,000 to $25,000. Organizations applying for the first time are typically considered for 1-year grants between $5,000 and $10,000.  Organizations previously funded are eligible for multi-year commitments.
